1996 Camry alternator died
alternator died and the mechanic attempted to put in a refurbished alternator and it started smoking. He thought it was a defective alternator so he tried another refurbished alternator and it did the same thing. HE thinks it is an electrical problem but can't figure it out and then he read on a forum that the 96 Camry needs a new Alternator (not refurbished) from toyota. Ha anyone had this problem and does this sound like a valid answer?

something not right there
alternator shoudnt have smoked
before fitting and smoking a brand new alternator
if the mechanic is unsure ..he is correct
that camry will need an mobile auto electrician to check the
electrical charging wiring system is sound
I am surprised the wires did not melt at the same time
it is my own experience I have found refurbished alternators give problems
with charging light coming on and failure of the internal stator regulator
and have fitted new ones ever since
