My 2000 XLE leather upholstery needs replacement. Any suggestions?

I saw some genuine OEM seat covers for the driver's side which I thought was odd as the passenger side was discontinued. I also looked at aftermarket covers, but I haven't found out for sure if they are just "covers" or actual upholstery that is installed directly over the seat foam.

I still want to check out the local upholsterer in town. I don't even need leather; cloth or vinyl would be fine.

Has anybody recovered theirs?
