New Stereo in 2003 Camry
Hello,
We have a 2003 Camry with the stock stereo. Its an okay unit except that the radio reception has never been that good probably because it has a built in antenna and not an antenna mast. Has anyone changed their stock unit out with success? We have a nice aftermarket unit to install and we found that there are special adapters to make it look like a clean install. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thank You!

tons of people have done it. I've done it on my 98 and on a 01 corolla, and assisted with various other cars.
There are dash kits available to make the install look clean, however, radio reception will probably not improve. The windshield antenna works fine, but i too notice it seems a tad weaker than the traditional mast type antenna.

Our owners manual says the antenna is in the back window. I just wonder if a Pioneer Super Tuner would get better reception than the stock unit. Yes, I know they have kits to make the install look clean. Thanks

ah good luck. those don't tend to work well in cars with rear windshield antennas. my friends and i have tested a variety. Only will work well if you throw the ipod in the backseat or have it on the rear deck.
But hopefully you'll have a good experience.

Thats interesting. Well we got one from a place named newegg.com. It was rated by the people who bought it and got very high ratings. Some of the people said it worked better that any other one. I think its a Kensington. So far it works surprising well but we will try it for a couple of weeks and see what happens. It has three presets on the actual fm transmitter to choose from. Maybe cheap ones don't work very well? I also have a 95 Camry 4cyl with a manual 5 speed and XLE wheels. The stereo in that car has a mast antenna and gets great reception. It was very easy to install the stereo in the 95. They had the harness at Wal-mart. Thanks.
