Default california vs 49 state

Hi guys. I have a 96 Camry LE 2.2L automatic. The head gasket failed and warped the head. I had it machined and had the valves ground. I put it back together and the car ran great. At about 300 miles later the engine threw the #1 rod through the block. Bummer I know. I have found a used long block but it is a california model (air injection maybe?) and my car is a 49 state. My question is could I potentially install the california engine and just plug the air tubes in the head and save myself some money and LOTS of time instead of putting my 49 state head on the new block? Thanks!

The block is the same, the head is different. Probably not a bad idea to put the head you have on there, since you just had it worked on.
