engine fan taking to long to come on
Hi have camry 93 automatic 2.2 5 sfe engine .Problem however much i ride car never seems to go over half way on heat .New radiator thermostat etc.If i have been riding a while then in neutral rev engine to purposly get temperature up (test by auto electrician )fan kicks in when heat goes over half .The questin is hardly ever goes over half way so fan hardly ever comes on when i use it it shows half way but engine bay feels hot is there any way i can get fan to kick in a bit earlier/engine bay feels hot and car is almost non stop up to half wherever and whenever using it driving for a while how do i ger fan to kick in earlier can i ask auto electriacian to add a manual fan switch on or do i try get lower sensor for heat
Did the mechanic test the coolant temp switch for the fan system? The switch activates the fan system when the coolant temp is above 199F.
The switch is on/off. When the temp is at or below 199F, the switch is closed. When above 199F the switch is open. This on/off operation is opposite of what you might expect.
Could also be a faulty temperature gauge sensor.
Next time the temp starts rising, turn on the A/C. This will activate the fans when the A/C compressor is running (both fans should run). The fans will cycle on and off with the compressor. Determine if the coolant temp starts dropping.
You can install a manual switch by installing it into the wiring for the coolant temp switch. The switch is located at the bottom of the radiator facing the engine. The wiring runs up the inside of the radiator can connects to the harness. In a normal operating coolant system, a switch should not be required. If you know someone who does stereo installations or such, they could wire in a switch.
