Default Needing oil pump help in 97 Camry!

I have had a pretty steady oil leak in my 97 Camry 4 cyl. The leak hits the ground on the right side at the back. The local mechanics told us that it was probably the oil pump and would be around $650 to fix including labor. We've found oil pumps for around $125 online so we are wondering how big of a job it is to replace this ourselves. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

This question depends on the person doing the job. Some people have absolutely no coordination or organization skills. In this case- i would recommend you pay someone to do it for you. If you have automotive mechanical skills- then i wont be that much more work than replacing the timing belt. Once the timing belt is removed- the oil pump can be accessed and replaced. I would suggest you replace all of the oil seals behind the timing cover including the crank seal, oil pump o ring and sprocket seal, cam seal, etc.

Thanks a lot! We will probably get some more quotes. How much should the labor and parts run for this though?
