has any body changed the studs on a 2002 camry if so could you let me know how you got the plate off that holds the studs.

when I took off the axle nut then all I should have to do next is give the plate a couple taps and the plate should come off so I can remove the studs and replace them with new ones. but it doesnt and the plate that holds the studs is on tight how do I take that plate off. and sorry if I dont have all the right terms for the car parts.

 

You can replace the studs that hold on the tire rim without taking off the plate. They are pressed into the plate (called a hub) from behind.

Some owners hit the stud with a hammer to drive it out but would not recommend this as it might cause wheel bearing damage.

To install the new stud insert from behind. Then install some washers and a nut to pull it into the plate.

The plate is pressed into inner wheel bearing race. The outer wheel bearing race is pressed into the steering knuckle (the part the shock absorber is attached to).

You CAN NOT pull the plate out unless you use a screw puller or press. I DO NOT recommend you does this as you will need to repress every thing back together. This is a LOT of work and requires removing the knuckle and using a press.

 

I just finished thnx for the help, just wanted to let you know that there is two pre drilled holes on my rotor that you have to insert two bolts in to to pull off the plate. I had to do this because other wise I couldnt get the studs out. any ways thanx for the help

 

So you were trying to take of the rotor then?
