Default Odd check engine light question

My 94 4 cylnder camry started acting funny , it won't rev past 2.5K it just studders and cuts out. I thought I'd check the engine code so i jumpered the two ports and looked but I realized I have never saw the check engine light in my car ever. I have abs, brake, and a few others but no obvious check engine light. Do these bulbs ever burnout? I know this sounds silly but where would it be located in my cluster? When I jumpered the test port nothing happened, all the lights went solid and I saw no flashing ones .

the check engine light should light up everytime you crank the motor...if not the bulb may be out or worst electrical problem. make sure you have a good connection when your jumping the data link connector.

Thats what I'm asking, where in the cluster is the check engine light ? I know it dosen't work because I have never seen it, even when the key is on and the motor off. I feel the original owner may have taken it out to sell the car easier.

is located close to the brake and battery light.... sound like you need to remove the gauges....its more likely the bulb.

opened it up, the bulb was missing I took the one from my other socket for now. SO I jumpered it and sat there wnd watched the blinks and it was a constant , never ending flash. No pauses or anything, that one definatley isn't listed in my repair manual. Any help?

Hello everyone, brand new to forum.

I just bought a 96LE with 69,500k miles on it. And one week after, the check engine light comes on. What I am looking for is any advice out there. And how to jump the OBD to read the code via the flashes of the check engine light. And if anyone can post the codes.

Are there any common issues with this model year? Or any recommended repairs to do up-front?

Thanks, Walt
