Default Radar Emblem? 300$!!

I bought a used 2022 XSE, got a good deal... finding out why. I could see the hood crease and rear bumper damage but now we're dealing with other issues. CarFax did tell me front and rear had been damaged... turns out the front was repaired as cheaply as possible, with bent parts and Home Depot fasteners (avoid MyNextCar, dealer number P164821).

Case History For: P164821 - (No records found for this license) Case history data details how cases were resolved; including any administrative sanctions or other requirements that were imposed on the licensee.
The closure codes CC, CW, CRS, CACI, CACII, and CMED indicate that there were violations of department rules and/or the law, but the violation was corrected, a warning was issued, or the violation fell outside the department’s jurisdiction and was referred to the appropriate entity.

The closure codes CCMPT, CPAN, CCMPTAG, CAO, CAFO, CAHFO indicate that there were violations of department rules and/or the law, and the department took administrative enforcement action against the licensee that went beyond a warning. These enforcement actions could have included the assessment of civil monetary penalties, requirements to attend trainings, adverse license actions, or orders to cease and desist from violating department rules and/or laws.

Hit a reflector with the left front bumper.... gets expensive. My radar showed bad calibration anyway, but I'm getting a free cal through the insurance on the new (my fault) damage. Turns out that if the front emblem is scratched it will affect the radar and can make it un-calibratable. The body shop told me the radar guy could not cal my radar until they removed the logo... so it requires a new logo. Fun! So the pre-existing damage charges are 1600$ in addition to my deductible.

I see cheap logos on eBay etc... going to go with the factory part $$$ in order to get the free cal from insurance. Hopefully then my auto cruise control collision avoidance brake warning etc will work properly... I started another thread on here when I got the car, now we know why.

I assume if you replace the emblem you'll need a recal... anyone else been through this?

What is your question?

If you get a factory emblem you state insurance will pay for calibration.

If the system cannot pass calibration now due to the scratched logo a new one will need calibration.

One might assume calibration compensates for any variances in part fit/finish/damage. Over time every car has some frontend finish issues with rock chips, bugs, paint fading and other issues.

You might check out the Toyotanation.com website. There are a number of threads on calibration. The Camry would use the same or similar system as other Toyota models. Expand your informational search to all models having this system.

Shot in the dark here but how recently did you buy this Camry? Buy from a dealer?
I'd be pretty upset if I bought a car that had concealed damage and was not disclosed, especially with a car dealer.

Yep... kinda upset is right. However, I only paid 16.5kUSD for it, with 104kmi on it. Runs like a top. Just got it back from the shop, turned in that POS Mishibishi Outlander or wtf it was... CVT, yuck. Even with the extra 1600USD charge I'm saving money over KBB price for one, and this was before gas got Trumpy. I bought it from a 'dealer', that is, a guy with a dealer license out of his garage. Never again.

Here's the pictures of the logo they took off... turns out it's off a hybrid, hence the blue. This was not the OG logo for the car, so they probably got it off eBay. You can't really see any damage but I guess it doesn't take much to screw up the radar. Got to try the radar cruise control on the way home, it works well... finally.

Oh, wow! The blue emblem on a non-hybrid!
I guess what matters is that you are happy now! And I agree about the CVT transmissions, I never hear about anyone liking them.
