I was going to change the plugs at 60k. the dealer told me these are special plugs that dont get changed that often. The way I understand it these are like the toyota fuel filters.(extra long life) They have extra wires runnning to them and they are expensive. Jst wanted to get an education on them. the 2.4 motor 2003.

Hmmm if those plugs are the ones that originally came with the car from the manufacturer, you probably should change them at 60k, however, if the dealer said that the plugs in your car are irridium plugs then they will last you till 90+K miles. Maybe toyota uses irridium for their i4 engines now as my family's 2001 corolla also has irridium plugs.
The plugs that need to be changed at 60K intervals are called Platinum plugs. Those are the plugs that came with my v6 98 camry.
Then there are copper plugs that should be checked regularly and changed when needed, typically 30K.

So if the dealer says you have Irridium plugs then you can definately wait a while.

There maybe others too but those aren't used so much in general use vehicles.

Alright good. Most new cars after 2001 seem to come with those plugs. I would still say get them changed at the 90K service and at latest 120K service. Reason being is that only under the most optimum conditions will the plugs last that long and stay in good condition. Poor plugs cause damage to your car in one way or another. Waiting for it to run rough isnt exactly the best advice (if thats what they told you). nothing in the automotive world is set in concrete, so always be connected with your car while driving it and just give it a good look over every week or whenever you get gas. Could save you a ton of time and money!

cheers!
