84 Camry ? about Motor
Hello to all,
I was wondering if anyone can tell me about the 2FSE motor on a 1984 Camry and what you think of that car. It is a automatic and I was wondering what problems anyone has had with these years and model cars. I would appreciate any guidance as I was looking to buy one with low mileage but want to know if you guys think its worth it on here please help? Or if you think it’s a great model please chime in about that as well e.g. negatives and positives about this model. Also can someone advise me what years are compatible e.g. 82-84 or 84-86 I can’t remember which years/models were compatible for Camry’s please advise?

The link below has info on Camry generations:

You might review posts for this generation at the TN site to gain input.
How low mileage, what condition, etc?

I was so hoping you would chime in Joey P. you have helped me in the past and I appreciate it now.... Okay here is the deal I have a 87 Camry 5 speed with 197k on it and I am debating to purchase a 84 with 63k original miles on it in great condition. The catch is I will have to get rid of the 87 if I get the 84 because I won't have enough space/room as I have other classics cars 83 bmw 320i and a 91 accord se. So you see I have a tuff decision to make and need some input and help e.g. what is the horsepower of each motor 3fse vs. 2fse and what is advantages and disadvantages of the 2 motors. Any input you have to give will be much appreciated.

The Wikipedia site below has the engine data you are looking for:
Toyota S engine - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The site info is from a world Toyota prospective, find the specific engine for your car based on year and model.
You can also search for Camry under Wikipedia to get the models and changes through the years but again you will need to find the data for your cars.
As to which engine or car is better obviously the newer car is more advanced with a higher HP engine. Both models appear to have performed well (unlike some much later Camry models.
Suggest you read posts at the Toyotanation site on in the appropriate forum (year/model) to get an idea of what repairs owners have needed.
I doubt either is a classic car, the older car having so fewer miles might be in better condition (if the OD stops at 100K make sure the OD has not turned over and the 60 is not 160K miles).
From my prospective your looking at the same car just different models and neither appear to be lemons (unlike some much later models). Thus the same issues come into play such as condition, future repairs, rust, etc. The 3SFE is the more popular engine and made in more numbers in the US.

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. To answer your ? about the odometer it is 6 digits so it is correct and based on the look of the paint, parts, and overall condition of the car it is obvious someone parked this is a garage for many years. I am not sure about the motor I did go on TN and I am waiting to hear back from them thanks again.
