Computer or Tranny?
94 camry, 5sfe, auto tranny.
only shifting up into third gear (from 2nd) it gets hung up and then jolts pretty roughly when it catches.
It will normaly shift at about 3-4000 rpms, but it sticks in 2nd till about 6000, then sits there for a second. Next it shifts, but its about the same as sticking your hand into a moving fan. it doesn't catch as quickly as the rest (i don't think...it's milliseconds, so who knows) and when it does it feels like theenigine and tranny are revolving at way different rpms, cuz it jerks hard.
At first i thought it was an engine problem or something with the connection between the two. But it's only third gear. So i thought it was something with third gear, but it only does it 2nd to 3rd, not 4th to third, and if i baby it (hold around 2-3000 rpms) it'll shift okay. That's why i'm thinking computer.
right now i'm either babying it, or dropping it into neutral when i hit 5000 rpms, and letting the rpms drop and then put it back into drive. It doesn't seem to fight with that as much. Any ideas?

Might be the 2-3 shift valve.
But the engine overspeeding (trans slipping) is a bad sign.
Speedometer work OK?
Is the trans fluid in good condition?
Typically the ECU rarely is the problem, thus would look at the trans.

speedo works perfectly and the first thing i did was check the fluid. it was a bit low, but not terrifyingly. I filled it back up to where it should be, but didn't help much. Something i've noticed is that it doesn't do it until the car's warmed up....at least it doesn't seem to jerk as hard when the car hasn't warmed up.

no and full. i haven't changed it since i've had it (25000 miles, about)
i've had other people suggest a solenoid and i've read about auto tranny problems :
"Automatic transmission (1992-96): The "A-40 series" automatic transmission may shift harshly because rubber check ***** shrink, blow through a plate, and become dislodged."
any ideas?

Technical bulletin #345 Dated 1996
Original color ***** are black, new are blue.
About 7 ***** in two differant diameters.
If the trans fluid is black change all of it. About 1/3 is in the pan, 2/3 in the torque converter. Total about 6 qts.
The ***** are in the shifter body that can be accessed by removing the pan. If you do decide to get into this you will need some technical info.
