Default 02 Camry transmission oil

Hi i got 02 camry le v6 ATwith 128k on it. I have a question about checking transmission oil. I checked it with engine running at idle. When i checked it car was cold and dip stick has mark for cold dip stick didnt even touched oil, then it got warmed up then the level got to cold low, finally i drove it for half hour and level was at hot .Does this indicate a low level oil. Or do we check oil with engine turned off. My camry also gives quite big jerk while putting in Drive gear when its cold. and if drive it like that it feels like its having trouble in changing gears.

Default RE: 02 Camry transmission oil

Trans oil expands and contracts with temperature. That's why there are the cold/hot marks on the dip stick. Looks like your level is low. You need to add the correct amount and then see if the trans works better. I'll bet the trans fluid has never been flushed/changed, especially if it's brown, or dirty red. Fluid should be bright red. You'll want to explore why it's leaking as well.
