1992 Camry problems again! Does anyone know about this problem I am having with
my 1992 Camry LXE. Argh!!!!!!!? My car all of a sudden started running extremely hot- within 10 minutes of driving. It is a year 1992 V6 engine...lost of miles on it. I want to know if the fan that blows directly onto the hood is enough to cause the engine to overheat if the fan is going slower than usual?
A friend looked at it and he was able to stop the fan with his hand while the car was running- which I was sure was'nt possible without losing a few fingers. He now says that my car is one of a few made with this way with hydraulic sensor/motor that tells the fan how fast to go. The only place he can seem to find this sensor is directly from Toyota and a new sensor from Toyota costs $150!!
Anyone know about this stuff? plz help
all input is greatly appreciated

The fans start up to draw air through the radiator when the coolant temp rise above a certain temp as with stop and go or car at a standstill.
Hydraulic fans were common on the early V6 but then was changed over to electric.
There was a CF poster having the same issue, slow fan speed. Suggest you check past posts at this site on the hydraulic fan system. The fix was to replace the solenoid valve that controls fluid flow to the fan.
How good are you at doing repair and diagnostic work?
