Hey, I have a 90 camry and I'm trying to figure out where all this exhaust is coming from in the cabin of the car.

I don't notice any huge leaks around the exhaust manifold, down the flex pipe or around the cat.

The muffler is gone, waiting on funds to replace it, so the pipe just kind of ends where the muffler would be.

But I don't think a missing muffler would cause such an intense exhaust smell in the driver's seat. Its so bad its undrivable. What am i missing? What part of the exhaust system up front would leak so badly?

 

Is the smell when parked or driving?

Suppose its possible the gas is being drawn into the car when driving even though the leak is in the back.

Check around the EGR valve area for leaks.

If the car has an emissions converter determine if it is the type having an air injection hose running to it. If so check out the hose and connection at the engine.
