Question 94 6cyc Igniter issues

Is there a way to test the igniter? Car won't start and getting no spark to the coil pack, but when coils are tested they are good.
Any Ideas thanks
Tim

I only have info for 1995 V6. I'm assuming you have 6 coils. Are you getting any codes? I have not seen any info to test igniter, just to test everything else first then if all ok then try another igniter. The igniter is just a switch that is controlled by the ECM through a 5v input signal, when switched the igniter sends battery current to the primary of the coil, then cuts that primary current off so the secondary of the coil can generate high voltage to the spark plug. Code for igniter circuit malfunction is P1300. Have you tested camshaft position sensor and crankshaft position sensor?

Spark Test:
1. Check connection to ign coil and igniter
2. Check power supply (12v) to ign coil and igniter
3. Check resistance of ign coil
4. Check resistance of camshaft position sensor
5. Check resistance if crankshaft position sensor
6. Check IGT signal from ECM to igniter - this will be 5v from ECM. There will be 6 output IGT (5v) from ECM to 6 input IGT (5v) at igniter then to 6 12v output from igniter to coils.
7. Try another ignitor
