Default 94 Camry Transmission or Drive Axels

Car just "stopped" today. From a stand still, preparing to turn heard a load clunkand car lost locomotion. Was able to push car as it moves freely in any gear. When shifting into park for neutral (through reverse) there is a grinding noise as if it is not synchronized. Car revs as though in Neutral but will not move. No fluid loss, drive axles replaced about 2 weeks ago

Any thoughts on what the issue could be - transmission, transaxle or drive axle -spun/broken?

Default RE: 94 Camry Transmission or Drive Axels

Would start by jacking up each side of the car. Place trans in neutral and rotate wheels, listen for noise and feel for binding.

When rotating the tire the axle should feel like it is engaging the differential. If the other tire is off the ground it may start rotating the opposite direction.

Remove the tire and inspect the axle and CV joints for breakage. It is possible a CV joint or the axle broke.

If all this OK and the car still does not move when in gear or the trans makes a grinding noise, suspect the trans.

The trans uses clutches and brakes to engage the gearing not synco gears. If grinding two gears may be trying to engage at the same time.
