Default Car Runs, but overheats. Problem/Solution?

Hey everyone,

New to the forum...unfortunately. FYI i LOVE my camry, as it has been trouble free up until recently. '92 4 cyl 5spd 192k

What happened:
Driving the car on the highway, it no longer accelerates. The car begins to slow and the temp gage begins to rise. Fan clicks on, the temp drops a little but then sky rockets to red. The motor begins making a small clanking/sweaking sound ( i have associated this sound with low/no oil). I pull over immediately and shut the car off.

Steam from radiator, overheated engine/coolant smell. I see the clamp from the thermostat>radiator hose has backed and fell off, spraying coolant everywhere. I let the motor cool off, put the hose back on, fill it w/ water. The car hobbled back to life and drove about 5 miles before overheating & shutting off agian.

Started it again today, AC blows cold, top and bottom rad. hoses hot. It does run smoother, but it takes a few cranks and pushing the accelerator. No apparent oil leaks, no smoke, oil looks ok.

I did notice today that the lower hose has sprung a leak, so I will replace that , see what happens and report back.

I'm worried that something catastrophic has happened, but I'm keepin faith if the car does start and run, it could just be that hose...

Please, any info would help. I love my car, just want to keep her on the road.

Depending on how hot the engine became it could have blown a head gasket. This is not uncommon when this engine is severely overheated.

Suggest you pull the spark plugs and check them for signs of coolant. Have someone do a compression test.

Suppose it is possible coolant if sprayed everywhere got into an electrical connection or the ign system.
