Default Codes 0300,0302,0304,0171,1130,1152

Hello I have a 2000 Toyota Camry V6 I just purchased.
It has 170k on it and what we thought was just an Oxygen Sensor engine light turned up these codes.
I've already purchased an air filter, plugs and gas filter to install but figured with the long list of codes there might be something specific causing this group of error codes. Could it be the O2 Sensor causing all of this?
Car idles a little high but runs fine with a little black smoke from the exhaust.

Figured I'ld ask before going down through the LONG list of possible causes and replacing unnecessary items.

Thanks.

The codes are:
P0171 System Too Lean (Bank #1)

P0300 Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected

P0302 Cylinder #2 — Misfire Detected

P0304 Cylinder #4 — Misfire Detected

P0305 Cylinder #5 — Misfire Detected

P1130 A/F Sensor Circuit Range / Performance Malfunction (Bank #1 Sensor #1)

P1152 Lack of Upstream Heated Oxygen Sensor Switch - Sensor Indicates Rich - Bank No. 2

It sounds like the mixture is way out of wack. Black smoke is typically a sign of the engine to rich. I would start with your O2 sensors first. I'm sure someone will post about how to test your O2 sensors to make sure they are getting proper voltage...

Thanks guys. I have ordered the O2 (A/F) sensor from Rock Auto. Front Upstream, Cali emissions.
In the meantime I changed out the plugs. The front 3 were dry black soot. The back 3 looked fine.
I figured instead of ordering both Upstream sensors I might as well focus on the front with the plugs looking like that.

Thanks again. Will post results once the O2 sensor arrives.

P0171 and P1130 can reference either Bank 1 or 2, Sensor 1.

Given the soot is on the front plugs (nearest radiator), change the Bank 2, Sensor 1.

Bank refers to the row of cylinders?
Thanks for the input folks.
I actually had the car out the other day and looked down to see the Engine light went off. I got all excited thinking the plugs cleared the problem but it came back on today.
So I figured it must have cleared the codes and now I have new codes so I took it in and had the codes read again.

This is what we got this time.
P0171- Bank 1 Fuel Trim Malfunction (Bank #1) Too Lean.
P1130 - A/F Sensor Circuit Range / Performance Malfunction (Bank #1 Sensor #1)
P1150 - A/F Sensor Circuit Range / Performance Malfunction (Bank #2 Sensor #1)

I see both Banks referenced. ?? Going out tomorrow to get some MAS cleaner just to rule that out.

Bank 1 is bank of cylinders that includes the No 1 cylinder. For this engine is it the head closest to the firewall. Bank 2 is then the one closest to the radiator.

P0171 means the fuel trim system is leaning the mixture, not the actual mixture is lean. The actual mixture is rich.

Suggest replacing the sensor on the bank having the sooted plugs.

The #1 sensor part number is the same for both banks. Suggest Denso brand.

Make sure you get the correct sensor for your cars built-to emissions spec which was either California or Federal. There is a sticker in the engine compartment stating to which emission spec the car was built.

Shop the internet for better prices on parts.

Thanks Toyomoho. I was able to figure out the Cali/ Fed spec looking at the list of parts and reading the forum. Mines Cali $$$$.

I must admit it has me a little confused. Bank 2 was the problem plugs but I get bad readings for Bank 1.

I made sure I got what folks here recommended. I see the Denso tag all over these posts.

I'll update after I install the sensor.

Thanks

For V6 engine, P1130 refers to either Bank 1 or 2, Sensor 1. For 4-cylinder, it refers to Bank 1, Sensor 1.

Post back with results of the repair.
