draining gas tank

RE: draining gas tank
Well I guess you've already checked for a drain plug so I wonder if you could disconnect the fuel line and run it into a container, then get access to the fuel pump connector and hot wire it to the/a battery and let the fuel pump run the tank dry. I'm not sure if the fuel pump can run dry for very long without overheating but I would just keep an eye on the fuel gauge. One other possiblity is to access the top tank cover where the fuel pump is and just siphon it out from there.

Doesn't the fuel pump access through the top of the tank in the trunk, under the trunk liner? I've never seen a 2007 but from other vehicles that's where you access the fuel pump or at least the gauge sender.

is there any place i can get a layout or diagram of the car? i just checked the trunk, under the liner and there is nothing there. the gas tank in this model is located in the upper center of the car. no where near the trunk.

Anything short of an FSM or Haynes (which might not be out yet) I'd go to the dealer and get an exploded parts view of the gas tank. They should be able to print one out for you, especially if you are going to buy parts from them.
