Default Gas door trouble

I dirve a 1998 toyota camry, and when i went to go pump gas 2 days ago my gas door would not open when i pulled on that lever near the dirvers seat. I soon found out that to open it i need sumone to hold the lever up while i push the bottom left corner of the door to open it. I'm currently thinking it a spring on the door is messed up. But does anyone know the problem and how to fix it, except buying a new door which i might do?

so the release is working? Probably the spring. Try prying it wider again. Or getting it replaced.
