Help! 1996 Camry shift assembly

Help, im trying to replace the automatic shift assembly. How do you take this metal plate off so i can free the shift cable from the assembly?

The plate has a U-shaped slot. Pull up on the curved side of the plate on the opposite side of the slot.

The plate has a slight bend in it making for an interference fit when pushed onto the cable mounting bracket.
