I did, and I still can't seem to find a visual on engine temperature. Is there one at all? I was hoping so. I'd prefer to see a problem creeping up on me than a sudden red light flashing a problem already in full swing.

dont know what type of camry you have
what comes up on the instrument panel every time you go to start
if no temp guage in instument panel then
its a light or warning symbol when things go wrong
if so you stop the car as soon as its safe then lift the bonnet

No temp gauge? That's weird. I really wish all cars came with an actual temp gauge where the real temperature is marked. As well as oil pressure and volts. As much as I hated my '01 Monte Carlo SS, it had all the gauges so I could keep an eye on everything, but with that car I really had too!
Could you post a pic of instrument cluster? Or post a link? I'm curious...

Its a 2013 LE. So far we haven't located anything about an actual gage in the manual. It does show an area at the bottom right of the instrument cluster where a light will come on if there's an overheating problem, but not an actual visible gage.
I'll go out after daybreak and take a photo.

D'Oh!! Couldn't find it in the manual, but..................
Left on the instrument cluster where the Transmission mode indicator and the Mileage indicator are there's a very small non-illuminated window with a C, H and a series of dots in between. A small vertical bar moves from C to H as the engine warms. Lyn and I have been looking at that dash cluster for better than a week and only this morning did we discover it. The whole affair can't be more than 1/4 by 3/4 of an inch in size.
I reiterate........... D'Oh!.
BTW.... It's -36 here this morning.
sheesh...................
