Quick question. I changed the engine oil in my 09 Camry today and put 5 qts in instead of 4.5. Will a .5 qt too much cause any damage?

No, the engine will be OK with the extra 1/2 quart.

 

I don't know where you are, so I don't know if you are using too much oil. If you have newer windows, you should not have drafts. Have the drafts repaired. To find out if you are using a lot of oil, call the oil supplier, and ask them what the average use is for an apartment your size in your area. They should also be able to run an analysis to show you how much oil you SHOULD be using, versus what you are using.
