Default Stock Air Intake Mod?

I'm not sure who else has seen this, but I wanted to get some people's input on it and if they think it will work. I am hesitant to think that it works because because of the turbulence factor. Toyota engineers spend lots of time designing these things...

The stock intake design would have factored in air flow. As evidenced by this mod, intake mods can be easy and low cost, Toyota could have changed the design if engineers thought it useful.

One step beyond this mod is a cold air intake where dyno tests show HP gains to be nil.

If the mod is before the air filter, this would straighten out the flow.

I agree with you Joey. Kind of interesting to see what people try though.

It looks like someone has just hacked a larger opening into the intake resonator? I'm not sure how this could help performance...other than change the intake sound. It looks like it might actually create more intake turbulence and possibly reduce air flow. I think one would be better off simply sealing that resonator box off or running some sort of straight tube from the snorkel to the air box.

I think you are right, jcme0557. I think a straight tube through the resonator would be a better idea.
