Default '06 Camry LE

Hi everyone. My name is Brian and I just purchased my first car. I have a problem with my gearshift not shifting gears smoothly. Is there any fix for this besides making sure that the brake pedal is pushed down when switching from Park to Reverse? Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

The gear shifter is not moving smoothly or the transmission is not shifting smoothly?

For safety the shifter is designed so the brake pedal needs to be pushed before the trans can be shifted out of park.

It's just that the gear shifter isn't shifting smoothly, even with the break pedal pressed. Seems like it should shift easier, but I guess its just a safety thing.
