My mother was driving her 2003 Camry last week. She got about 2 miles from her house and the car stalled as she was coming to a stop at a red light. She wasn't able to restart it and had to have it towed to the auto shop. It's still at the auto shop and they've run a diagnostics check on it, but they say it starts up fine and they can't find anything wrong with it. They were going to take it for a test drive today to see if they can replicate the problem. Any ideas on what might've caused this and what I should ask the mechanic to check? I don't want my mom driving the car again until the problem is fixed.

 

Could be many items.

When engine does not start hot check for ign spark.

Some sensors work OK when cold but not hot.

EGR could have stuck open.

Clean throttle body.
