Unhappy 91 Camry, Need Help.

I'm really sorry, but I don't know all of the information about our car. I only know that it's a 91 Camry with an automatic transmission. I don't know the mileage, but I really need some help. My husband and I are all but homeless at the moment and our car isn't running any more.

We thought it was the solenoid because sometimes it would start and other times it wouldn't. We checked the battery first before checking the solenoid and the battery is sound. My father-in law got us a refurbished replacement solenoid and the car still doesn't work after getting it installed. Admittedly my father-in-law doesn't really know anything about foreign cars and may have installed it wrong or damaged something getting the old one out.

We really need our car in order to get around and for my husband to be able to try and find work. I'm going in for surgery next week and am being evaluated for disability. My husband suffers from social anxiety disorder and knows absolutely nothing about cars and goes into panic attacks at the thought of not being able to get it running again. We are staying with my in-laws out in the country in Monroe until the first of the year and we don't really know what we are going to do after that if we can't get our car running.

We don't have any money to pay for car repairs and are pretty desperate. I have photos of the engine if that would help anyone to give us some advice on what it might be and how to fix it. Thank you and I'm sorry I can't give more information.

Define what does not start means.

You turn the ign key and absolutely nothing happens.

Turn the ign key and hear a click.

Ditto but the engine turns over but does not start.

believe it or not I suffer the same mental problems
but dont have the added stress of homeless and little money

panic attacks are nothing pleasant when stressed

thank you for the pictures

the car is fixable and can be got running again
if the engine is cranking /turning over when you turn the key
you have fuel

It could be spark plugs or the leads to the spark plugs or something simple

dont know if you are using a phone or a computer there

I will message you the free link to that cars repair manual

as it will guide ....empower you a lot more
about the parts on that car and engine

and what is not working .....so we can help you further

The car used to start, but it wouldn't run for more than a few seconds before dying, it has sat for a few months now and the battery is dead. My husband tried to start it with a jump but it wouldn't even turn over now.

Thank you so very much, we have the owners manual, but that only covered routine maintenance but nothing else. I hope that this repair manual will cover what the owners manual did not.

If anyone is in the Monroe area and would be willing to come out and help us fix it, (if it can be fixed) it would be greatly appreciated. The thought of my husband trying to fix it by himself sends him spiraling into depression and panic attacks. We have tools available for use, either my husbands tools or we can barrow the tools from my step father-in-law. But we really need someone who actually knows what they are doing to help us out. Thank you.

The car would not even start when he tried to give it a jump, he hooked it up battery to battery. Positive to positive and negative to negative.

the car may have blown an important fuse causing it not to start

your picture two
the plastic thing near the battery terminal has 3 fuses

check none of them are blown
then check all the interior fuses

if all the fuses for the car are ok
you may need a replacement engine management computer .. called an ECU

this is the correct way to jump start your camry from now on
positive of jumping car to positive terminal of the camry battery
and negative cable clamp to any part of the engine the camry (usually the lifting hook )

I will check back later ......for your reply about the fuses

the next task required from your team is to check for spark at the spark plugs or leads while the engine is cranking

self help vidieo on spark plugs and leads

The ALT 80A fuse is welded in place, we are assuming that this means something fried it so hard that it is now part of the fuse box itself. We tried to get it out and it pretty much fell apart and the bottom half of it is stuck in the fuse box. Not sure what to do now because we wouldn't know how to replace the fuse box if we can't get what's left of the fuse out. We might not be able to check back for a few days to a week or so as my surgery date is coming up on Thursday of next week and I will be in the hospital for a couple of days.
