98 speedo, odometer, and cruise not working
I have a 1998 Camry with 2.2 and after driving for a while the speedometer will drop to zero, the odometer will go blank and the cruise will stop working. When that happens the check engine light will come on and the cruise light will flash.
When I check it with my OBD2 code reader it says P0500 "vehicle speed sensor A". I replaced the speed sensor in the top of the transmission and thought that the problem was solved. Very seldom do i drive the car more than 10 or 15 miles at a time. Yesterday i made a 300 mile round trip and shortly after I started my trip back home the speedometer drop to zero, odometer went blank, and the cruise control stopped working. Once again the check engine light came on and the cruise control light flashed. About 50 miles from the house I stopped for several hours and then started back to the house and about 15 minutes in it did the same thing. Each time this happens the transmission doesn't shift properly. As soon as I got home I left the car running and went inside and got my OBD2 code reader and it said P0500 vehicle speed sensor a. I've read dozens of post and they keep pointing me in the same directions, vehicle speed sensor a, ABS wheel sensors, and the resonator in the speedometer. Before I start throwing more money at this problem I thought I would try to reach out and see if someone else has a solution for me to use that will put an end to this problem. I've ordered replacement resonators but am holding off on purchasing replacement ABS wheel sensors.

The wheel sensors have their own codes.
If speed sensor is good. Check wiring. The speed sensor sends signal to the combination meter which then goes to the ECU.
If speedo works then speed sensor is working.
On sensor check for 12V power ign on at the red/blue wire.

Thank you, I'll check the next time I'm off work.
