My son's 2021 Camry SE has the P0706 long range sensor issue code. So he took it to a few mechanics that aren't dealership and this is literally, no BS what they said
"the code showing up is not new it's been there and Toyota changes it or somehow gets rid of the code when they sell the car"
I bought the car brand new, he was going to the dealership for oil changes. Like is this for real folks. I don't want to bring this to the dealership cause that initial diagnostic will run some money before they even fix the flippin car.
He's on his way up from AL to Chicago now and should be here tomorrow. So I'm on the hunt for mechanics in Chicagoland area.

I am personally not aware of this issue so I really cannot attest to it.
That being said:

Common Problems That Trigger the P0706 Code

  • Defective Transmission Range Sensor (PRNDL input)
  • Defective Transmission Range Sensor (PRNDL input) wiring or connector
  • Defective Valve Body
  • Defective manual shift valve linkage
  • Dirty transmission fluid that restricts the hydraulic passages

@ConcernMom The situation with your son's 2021 Toyota Camry SE is indeed concerning, and I hope the information provided by the non-dealership mechanics is not accurate. Their claim that Toyota "changes or somehow gets rid of the code" when selling the car is highly unlikely and potentially unethical. If your son's Camry has been regularly serviced at a dealership, it should have received proper diagnostics and maintenance as per Toyota's guidelines. Had a P0706 code been present during those services, it should have been addressed appropriately.
