Help with 2012 camry 250k miles - value
Hi all, I found a 2012 camry with 250k miles at $5000. Looks good. I need a car for my kid.
Is the 250k to high or it is still ok?I think it was serviced through Toyota dealerships.
Do I need to check anything on the vehicle?
What do you think?
thanks Joe

The V-6 is a good engine and any bugs seemed to have been worked in previous years. These problems were the VVTi oil hose leaking, idler pulley noise and water pump issues. Some engines had ign coil issues causing misfire, etc.The 6 speed autos may have problems with miles adding up. Check trans for slipping, shutter, hesitation, vibration, clunk when shifting. Find out if and when the transmission fluid was last change as it does wear out primarily from heat.
The rest is just normal wear/tear and checking off the inspection boxes.
Over time the radiator plastic upper cover/tank can crack and leak.
Due a few 360's left and right as slow speeds and listen for clicking, popping from the CV joints.
Determine if the water pump was replaced. Check for coolant leakage, overheating, etc. The temp gauge should be rock steady once engine is warmed up.
Go over some pot holes and check for rattling noises from sway bar bushings and upper strut mounts.
Many Toyota's came with both a master key and valet key. The valet key access was limited. Make sure you get the master key. Two master keys were provided. Make sure all the door locks work including the FOB to lock and unlock the doors.
Check that the A/C works.
As SOP when buying a used car make sure all the dash indicator lights come on with ign key at engine start then go off soon after start. It has happened a warning indicator light is disabled to hide a problem.
Check on the price as it seems a bit high but then used car prices are high now.

I have seen the car today and it was in a pretty bad shape. The pictures didn't show the details so I move along and I saw
a 2003 LS 430 4.3L RWD 200k miles that looks very good. New tires (less than 5k) New brakes (pads & rotors) New timing belt, water pump. New front wheel bearings. AC good.
What do you think about it about maintenance? I would keep it as a weekend car.
Should I open a new thread?
Thanks, Joe
