Default Idle at 1000-2000 rpm at (P)ark and (N)eutral

Couple weeks ago, I decided to clean my throttle body and when I started up

my car, my idle at (P)arking/(N)eutral goes to 1000-2000 rpm and it gives a

scary jerk when I move it to (D)rive or (R)everse. My car is fast on the road

but I know that my idle is not normal. I tried decreasing my ignition timing, but

that didn't work so I put it back where it was originally. There are no obvious

vacuum leaks and the EGR valve doesn't react when I check its vacuum lines. I'm

VERY frustrated. What can I do?!! Please HELP ASAP!

@toyomoho, the idle was slightly below 750 rpm and the car was shaky before I cleaned the throttle body.

The throttle body has something called an Intake Air Control valve (IAC) bolted under it. The valve controls idle RPM by varying bypass air around the throttle plate.

The intake port of the valve is located on the bottom of the throttle bore just ahead of the throttle plate.

Did you get too much cleaning solution into this port, were any electrical connectors or vacuum hoses disturbed?

Perhaps some debris fell into the port, might try cleaning the valve. An internet search will find lots of hits on how to do this.

A 750 RPM idle is OK, the engine tends to shake a little, the lower the idle RPM the more it shakes.

If the engine idled OK before the cleaning suggest you review your work.

@tonymoho, I might have gotten a little too much into the intake, throttle body and IAC but my mechanic did not find any problems with vacuum lines or in the electronics. Re-cleaning the IAC port fix the fast idle problem? I do not know if I mentioned but I cleaned the IAC before (this is not the first time working in the throttle body/intake) and the fast idle decreased in a day or two but now it's been couple weeks.

Worth a try.

Make sure the throttle arm is all the way to the stop. There is a vacuum powered dash pot that moves the throttle arm a little to prevent sticking on engine start up. Make sure the pin on the dash pot is retracting when engine running to allow the throttle to move to the idle stop

Sometimes the IAC valves, it can be tested and is also removable.
