Hi,
Just purchased 2016 Camry 4-cyl. Reads 24-25 mpg which
is not what was advertised. Supposed to be approx. 34 Highway.
Is there a break in period for the engine?

Instead of using the cars "computer." Determine MPG by gallons used and miles driven. Do this for several tank fulls of gas.

 

My 2016 LE is getting an average of 34.88 over the first 2870 miles. I set up a spreadsheet, so I get REAL mpg, not a guess. The car readout is always 3 to 4 miles above actual, and my ScanGauge is 2 to 3 over the actual. I find it interesting that the dash computer and the ScanGuage get their info from the same source but give different numbers, AND are both wrong.

 

there are quite a few tricks done on fuel test drives
so a makers vehicle specs says gives you x miles per gallon

this site claims 3.6 gals/100 miles for that camry as an auto

city testing never done in peak hour times
not tested on a full tank
run around a flat track top gear on cruize
higher tyre pressures
higher octane fuels
strip out seats and spare tyre and reduce any weight of the test vehicle
coasting down any hills for many kms at idle

 

Miles per hour is a big factor. Staying under 55 on Hiways will have a big impact on mileage but nobody wants to drive that slow except for me. Getting there faster must be better.

 

how much is your time worth....mine time is worth much more than the diff in gas cost from 55 to 75

 

most of the test cheating is not legal in the usa.
they use to base the highway number on 55 which was a cheat to favor large american cars. a true real world joke.
germany has some of the best rules, which is why lots of people can beat german numbers.
