Default Needing to use 'Shift Lock Override' button to shift out of park

Hello, new to this forum, couldn't find a post relating to this issue:
I have a 1990 camry 4cyl and recently I starting having an issue where pressing on the brake pedal does not release the shifter to come out of park. I have since been using the button in front of the shifter to get out of park every time I drive. I wanted to know if anyone else has had this issue, and if there is a fix for it, its a mild inconvenience, but it would still be nice to fix it if I am able to do so.
Thank you everyone in advance for any responses.

There is an electric solenoid on the cars hand shift lever mechanism. When this solenoid is off it locks the shift column. When its on when the ign key and brake pedal are activated it unlocks the shifter.

If the solenoid fails or something gets stuck (debris) in the shift mechanism there can be problems.

Suggest picking up a Haynes shop manual.
