Default what to do with 97 camry

hey, i am planning on buying a 97 camry and want to do a few mods but want to know firstly should i just stick with the engine it comes with and throw a trubo and intercooler on it or do an engine swap for an engine that already has a turbo? and how difficult is engine swapping? or should i just be safe and stay with the camry engine?

Thanks

What do you plan on doing with the car? Racing it? I don't think there's turbos available for the 2.2L engine.

Look for a 3.0 liter V6.

i was thinking that but i also need to watch the gas and i really want teh PSH sound when i shift gears lol so that means turbo and BOV and the intercooler i'm really into so i was thinking the 4 cyclinder and then putting that stuff on it to bring the horsepower to near or more than teh stock V6 engine btu also ahve that PSH and nice looking intercooler

Turbocharged 4 cylinders have been done.

Suggest checking out the Toyotanation website as some members have gone this route.

Do a search first you might find photos.

The gas mileage difference is minimal on the highway. I had nothing but 4 cylinders until this last one I went with a v6. Man what a difference in power. It´´s instantenous! But like toyo said , 4 bangers do good with turbos.
