Default What’s the real impact of upgrading an exhaust header on performance and sound?

Hello everyone.

I’ve been researching exhaust headers for my car and keep seeing mixed opinions online. Some people say upgrading to aftermarket headers significantly improves horsepower, throttle response, and fuel efficiency, while others claim the gains are minimal unless the entire exhaust system is modified.

I’m also curious about the difference between shorty headers and long tube headers in real-world driving, not just on dyno charts. How much of a difference in sound should I expect as well?

If anyone has firsthand experience installing or tuning with performance headers, I’d really appreciate your insights on whether they’re actually worth the investment.

What engine model?

From experience on other car models, suspect you will not notice much difference in performance for a stock non-performance car like the Camry. The Camry engine is not high performance.

You will also need to do work arounds for the exhaust gas sensor unless the header has the fitting.

Can you even find headers for your year/model anymore?

The engine exhaust noise will be louder as the exhaust will now be drawn tubing instead of cast iron which would deaden the noise.

Toyotanation.com has a few threads on Camry headers.
