suspension rattling noises
Hello,
I have a 1999 Camry with 114,00 miles on it. We have never had any problems except forrattling in the front and back end. The front end is a higher pitched rattling that seems to come from both sides and only occurs at low speeds around town. At freeway speeds there is no problem. The rear has started to rattle as well but it is a lower pitched rattle.
Does anyone know what this could be? I have assumed that it is the shocks/struts but I have been quoted $1,400 to change them and I am not sure it would fix the problem. Could it be the tie rod bearings?
Thanks for any help.
Doug S.

RE: suspension rattling noises
Doubt if it is the struts themselves.
Check the upper and rear strut mounts. The rear mounts are right under the rear deck on the outside of the speakers. Have someone drive as you listen for noise.
The front upper mounts can break down with age, you may be able to partial inspect them from about.
The front and rear sway bar bushings can make a knock/squeal when going over bumps. Also check the links between the bar and suspension. These parts are pretty cheap and it is possible to DIY.
