Default 2009 Camry replace the entire dome light

My 2009 Camry dome light is broken. The on/off switch is broken and slides back and forth but nothing. The bulb will light up, if I hold it, but will not go in straight, however it is the correct bulb. I believe the place where the bulb goes is broken inside. Three of us have tried putting the bulb in but no matter how many hours of doing this, none of us could get it in straight. The switch that slides for the on/off positions does not lock. It just slides and does nothing. I think it is now stuck in the off position.
I thought the best thing to do is replace the entire unit but I cannot find any instructions in replacing the unit. Any suggestions? Thank you. Jean

The light assy is supposed to be held in by built in tabs on side the body, might be windshield side. These tabs can be pressed in with a dull flat instrument of taped over flat bladed screw driver. Gentle pull done on the assy with your fingers to view the tabs.

Thumbs up

If your 2009 Camry's dome light is malfunctioning due to a broken on/off switch and a non-locking sliding mechanism, addressing this issue involves a series of diagnostic and repair steps.

Firstly, inspect the on/off switch carefully. If it is visibly damaged or loose, it may need replacement. You can search for a replacement switch at auto parts stores or contact Toyota dealerships for the specific part.

Next, check the sliding mechanism. If it's not locking into the on/off positions, it could indicate internal damage or misalignment. You might need to disassemble the dome light assembly to assess the internal components. Ensure that there are no loose or broken parts affecting the switch's functionality.

If the issue persists, focus on the bulb socket. If it appears damaged or broken, it may need replacement. Purchase a compatible bulb socket and replace the damaged one, ensuring a secure connection.

Consider consulting your vehicle's service manual for detailed instructions on disassembling the dome light assembly and troubleshooting specific components. If you're unsure about the repair process, seeking assistance from a professional mechanic or contacting the Toyota service department can provide expert guidance.

In summary, the solution involves inspecting and potentially replacing the on/off switch, addressing any internal issues with the sliding mechanism, and replacing the bulb socket if necessary. Following the repair steps carefully or seeking professional help will help restore the functionality of your 2009 Camry's dome light.
