Default 97 Camry remote lock problem

Well here is the problem. I locked the car using the remote and then lost it. Now every time I unlock the car and start it (it does start) the lights start flashing. I have pulled fuses trying to disable it. I have disconnected the battery and reconnected it to try to reset it with no luck. Everything works but the lights continue to flash. I suspect this was installed by Toyota. I have looked all under the dash on the drivers side for a reset button - no luck. I can hear a relay clicking and I did find it but don't know where to go from here.

Any guidance would be appreciated.

Thanks

What did the remote look like? Did it have the Toyota logo on it?

Does a horn also honk? Any steady or blinking red light on the dash?

If no horn and the engine still starts the alarm may not be Toyota.

Suggest looking under drivers and passengers side of dash for the non-standard wiring and colors, in-line fuses and in-line wire connectors.

If you can, remove the upper steering console plastic trim cover. If the unit is an aftermarket product and wired into the lights, this is were it might be attached. Look for wires that appear out of place, splices or have colors different from what is main wiring.

My 97 has the Toyota alarm and I can unlock it with the button close the door and I go to open door with out pressing button to lock it and the alarm starts flashing and honking does it randomly but if door isn’t closed all the way it won’t do it and if I open trunk it’ll go off as well any ideas why

Default Remote

I had the same problem.
Duracell sells a replacement remote and there is a simple procedure to link the remote to your car.
Don’t remember the exact procedure but it was simple....less than 10 minutes.
