Default How would I install a subwoofer and amp in my 2002 Toyota Camry XLE?

Hi, I recently received a 250watt amplifier and a Kenwood subwoofer which my friend thinks is 250watt. I was wondering how would I go about installing those in my Camry? It is a 2002 XLE with the JBL sound system. Thanks.

If have a JBL most likely the radio head unit (unit installed in dash) already has a remote amp installed some place else.

You can tap off the head unit wires that send the audio signal to the amp, then wire this to your amp.

Or tap off the wires going from the installed amp to the speakers. In this case will need an electronic device (called a output line converter) to will reduce the high wattage output from the amp to something the new amp will accept without burning out. Most people use this method.

Find out what kind of signal your amp needs, as in maximum wattage input.

Crutchfield.com sells various devices to do both.

As to mounting the speakers. If JBL then may already have 6 speakers which is the max that can be installed in the various holes. The 6 speaker system has 4 bass/mid-range and 2 tweeters.

How big is the subwoofer?

Might need to make a speaker box and place it above rear deck. Don't recommend cutting into metal under the deck as this is part of the cars chassis and the hole needed is very large.
