Alpine! I dont think many will disagree with me that they make some of the worlds best HU for the money. But in terms of subs/speakers, other brands do a better job.

I ran an alpine in my Camry along with front speakers (my rears were infinity).

With my new Fit i have alpine components in the front - havent had the funds to swap stuff out, but im just sticking with alpine for everything regardless of what i know. haha.

I like JVC personally. I've never used anything else and never had any issues. Not to mention the fact that they are cheaper than alpine. But, Alpine makes a good product as well.

i'm seeing a lot of models for both jvc and alpine. What are some models that besically replace the stock systtem best. I guess my question is what head unit is the easiest to install without any re wiring or stuff like that. I'm doing the installation myself.

ALPINE!! the clarity/quality of an alpine headunit cannot be topped no matter the model, and they all, as far as i know, have preouts incase you do decide to add an amplifier in the future.

I have only used Alpine headunits and type R speakers. They work very well.

Kenwood's excelon line has very good headunits. loud and clear. the headunit itself doesn't put out alot of bass to speakers but the preouts are 4V vs 2V or 2.2V(Pioneer). so any amp you add to it will sound amazing. If you are looking for a good bass output from headunit check out Pioneer.
