Default 93 Camry tail light module

My back main running lights on my 93 Camry recently quit working. I took it to the Toyota dealership and they told me that the part I needed was the Tail Light Module, and that it would be $250 plus labor.

Is this something that can be easily replaced myself? Also, is there another name this part goes by, because I was thinking of getting a used one but I don't get any results from that name.

Thanks in advance!

You should be able to replace the part yourself. It is located in the trunk behind the drivers side wall panel.

Also called taillight failure sensor module, brake light failure sensor module.

Thanks for the info! How does this thing make my tail lamps quit running though. The two small outer lights still work but not the main two lights in the back. Brake lights and turn signals also work fine.

If the module is really the problem then . . .

The module is installed into the wiring between electrical power source and the brake and tail lamps. Not all power to the tail lamps may run through the module hence some bulbs work, others don't.

The module is wired to a indicator lamp on the dash board. If a brake light or tail bulb burns out the indicator lamp on the dash illuminates.

Sometimes the circuit in the module fails. This typically results in the tail or brake lamps not working.

Some owners manage to bypass the module electrically (jump wire the box) and then continue to have brake or tail lamp operation.

Thanks for the great info!

A local shop put in another sensor before I made this post and it already burnt out like the one before. I removed the small yellow sensor box and opened it and added some solder to the burnt ports. The lights are now working again but I dont know for how long, so I am wanting to get another part just in case.

Can anyone tell me what the part number should be for this? I see a lot of them on the internet that look similar but have different part numbers.
It is actually a 92 Camry.

Might check the wiring in the trunk where it goes from the chassis to the trunk lid. The wiring can became damaged by constant flexing as the trunk lid is operated. Perhaps if damaged the wiring is shorting out and drawing more power that effects the module.

lamp failure sensor #89373-06010.. That is the particular part number you need. This happened to me before but I thought the it was because the tail lights needed replacement. But, it was actually the tail light module.

Default You can buy it on ebay

I recently had the same problem that U have. U can buy the piece that U need for $30 on ebay. If you buy a new one from a Toyota Dealer or Auto Parts Store is gonna cost you than $200. Here is the link where U can go directly to Ebay to buy the replacement (TOYOTA CAMRY WAGON LAMP FAILURE SENSOR #89373-06010 | eBay). Just to give U a heads up , the part is not new. I wish I knew before I took my car to the mechanic and save a lot of money. It didn't take him more than 1/2 hour and charge me 140 bucks (the part wasn't new also). Hope this can help you.
