Default Oil filter cross threaded

I've been lazy and since I was getting a cheap price, I've been letting the dealer do my oil changes. Now that their price has gone up I have started doing my own. When I went to change the oil filter it was difficult to turn on the last threads (first threads when you install). Is this threaded bolt replaceable? I really can't see if it is a unit that can be taken off and replaced. Does any one know or is there a schematic or picture somewhere that I could look at?

If this is the pipe attached to the engine where the oil filter screws on, Toyota calls it an "oil filter union".

The union has a 12mm hex allowing it to be screwed into (and out) of the engine block with a socket. Torque to 9 ft-lbs.
