Suggest you obtain a low cost Volt/Ohm meter. Using the meter determine which circuit of the relay unit is bad.

The relay is composed of a switch connected to 2-terminals on the housing (numbers 3 and 5, if they are marked) and the solenoid coil that controls the switch and connected to another 2 terminals (1 and 2).

When the solenoid coil is energized by 12V DC, the switch closes. If you apply 12V DC to the solenoid coil terminals the switch should close.

You might be able to remove the plastic cover from one of the relays to inspect it and determine what socket terminals connect to what parts in the relay. Determine if the coil is burned or the switch contacts.

If you connect and ohm meter between the terminals of the coil it should have some resistance reading.

If the relay switch contacts are burned the circuit may be drawing too much current through them (why?) and causing damage.

How does the engine crank? For some reason the start solenoid coil may be drawing too much current (why?). This in turn would cause too much current to flow through the starter relay contacts and burn them.

or could be a wiring issue between the starter relay and starter solenoid. Perhaps the solenoids are OK but the socket and wiring to it have some corrosion or other issues.

When you go in for service take the old relays with you for the shop to look at.

Default My daughter has a 2005 camry

She was driving in rain water which went over the hood. Ever since her main relay or starter relay keeps going bad. It will start one or 2 more times with new relay, then goes bad. There are no burn marks on the relay and doesn't smell burned. Please help me.

The starter relay as in the small relay that triggers the starter solenoid?

Main relay?
