Unhappy 1998 Camry in need of a RHD headlamp..

hi avid Camry fans,

i'm the proud owner of a 1998 Camry here in the UK, which naturally is right-hand drive, and i've been taking good care of it since i obtained it last october - sadly last week due to an accident involving a slowly rolling car with a weak handbrake, she has lost the original left (passenger) side headlamp, which was smashed completely beyond repair.

i've bought a TYC headlamp, and fitted it happily but neglected to check the beam pattern, which is for a LHD vehicle, shooting off and up to the right (oncoming traffic in the uk), which has also caused it to fail the MOT.

i'm looking to somehow source a true replacement for the one i sadly lost, which either produces a RHD beam pattern, or at least a flat beam which is road legal, but i cannot for the life of me find one, and so i'm asking for help.

is there anyone kind enough to suggest some ideas (beyond the travel "stickers" that can go on to knock out the kick up part of the beam)? thanks!

Does this help? You should be able to aim the headlights within reason.

Hi "Paulie",

Thanks for this, but sadly not as it is to do with the beam pattern as opposed to the direction the beam is being pointed - interestingly enough, my Camry does not have a fixed headlight levelling system with a static bolt, but rather a motorized extender that is controlled by a dial in the car, which pushes the headlamps up and down - very cool, but not especially useful.

What I really need I suppose is a Japanese part as the UK certainly doesn't have them available, or an American one from a car with flat beams..

I suppose in the long run I could have a go at doing a custom retrofit using a projector in the bulb housing with clear un-fluted glass but that will take some time

Yeah, I think your set up is different than the norm, or what is the norm here in the states.
I didn't think they had motorized in '98 but I also wouldn't be surprised.
You might to try and ask over at toyotanation.com forum as another source.
