'94 V6 Camry - OBD1 or OBD2??
I'm trying to find out if my car is OBD2 or not ('94 V6 coupe). The Haynes book is useless. Just bought a new Actron scan tool (9145) to use on my '02 Jeep. I think the tool will work on the Camry as wll, but I'm not sure if I will need a special adapter cable that they sell. Any help would be greatly appreciated. FYI, go to Amazon.com if your looking for a scan tool - prices are the best! Thanks in advance.

RE: '94 V6 Camry - OBD1 or OBD2??
Think Toyota started using ODBII on the 1995 Camry with V6 option. For sure all cars had ODBII by 1996. A car with ODBII would have a sticker on the hood stating this.
This car has ODBI (or whatever Toyota calls it). One does not need a seperate code reader for this car as it has an indictor output system using blinking lights. The number of codes is very small compared to ODBII. The dealer has a plugin reader for this system but have never seen any aftermarket types for sale.

hum ,you are right
yes ,i agree with u . OBD2 is a protocol suitable most after 96 cars and part of 95 car ,so you should use OBD1. good luck....

1994? Camry
As I just purchased an auction ?94? Camry that might be a total rebuild I opened the ECU built in Tennesse 94 part #. No eprom in the box or a place for one. The OBDII readers I have seen are rectangles 2 rows of pins the connector under my "94" dash is round it is a J car. And there is a fuse block on the right side of the car beside the glove box?

4 or 6 cylinder engine?
There is lots of control boxes mounted on the firewall behind the glove box and at about the same height mounted on the passengers side of the car.
The fuse box is located behind the passenger side kick panel. This is the lower part of the side of the car.

'94 Camry V6 has OBD2 port located in the dash behind the removable coin tray. (Just got back from O'Reilly's having my '94 V6 codes checked.) Look to the let of the steering wheel, below the vent. Open the little coin tray/box/thing, and squeeze both sides to pull it all the way out. There will be a small bank of fuses and an OBD2 reader. Voila!

+1^. 94 Camry, 1MZ-FE V-6, has OBD2. Toyota started out a year or 2 ahead of the manditory legislated changes. Get this though! My 93 LE V-6, runs both, OBD1 & OBD2, although you can only access OBD2 under certain conditions, and the output is more or less useless for diagnostics.

you can find all of what you need in OBD2 Diagnostics Appareils-Fabricant global d'outil de diagnostic automobile

I have and 1995 Camry model, its build in 1994, XLE V6, I found out the OBDII conector under the dash, and seems he uses SAE J1850 VPW Protocol, som pictures:
I bought and Scanner on ebay called Vgate:
If you can see he start up normally, the problem is, I cannot make a link between the Scanner and the car, he says link error and dont lock on J1850 VPW protocol.
My doubt is if this car is really OBDII like some else says ahead or I have some problems with my scanner.
I tryed learn more about but came to dead end, cannot found out the real protocol used on my Camry:
Its my first post here, may name is Fabiano and Im from Brazil...
Regards...
