Default engine control module location

I have an '07 Camry XLE and was told the ecm needs replacing along with 2 oxygen sensors. I have a friend who said disconnected the harness and cleaned the pins and the problem he had disappeared. My question is where do you find it under the hood? The new part is 1200.00 so if I can clean it and fix the issue I want to give it a try. Any ideas?

Why did the repair shop conclude the ECM is bad?

The ECM is located under the dash, far passengers side wall (area between front of door and firewall.

If needing a new ECM , try Ebay for a used item (get the exact same part number). There are also online shops that repair ECM's.

Thanks for the info regarding online repair shops. I had my son in law look at it and to make a long story short, we replaced the bank 2, number 2, oxygen sensor and the problem disappeared. I am the worlds biggest skeptic when it comes to automotive technicians as I've been in the industry for 25 plus years. The tech at the kwik kar said 2 sensors as well as the ECM needed to be replaced at a cost of 2300.00 dollars. Well, 93.00 later it's fixed. Thanks again.

Great job!

Thanks for posting back with the fix.

Always pays to question the "experts" and if possible DIY and save.

I wanted to chime in and say that replacing the o2 sensor resolved my issues as well.

I was getting the p0606 code without the p0157 code for a while. I was dreading replacing the ecu/ecm. The root cause was the o2 sensor.
