Default 97 Camry Wiper/Washer Light On

My 97 Camry had the windshield wiper/washer warning light come on and I thought it could have been the switch lever on the steering column. The intermediate wiping function no longer works. And when you turn off the wipers they stay where they are and do not return to the bottom of the windshield. I changed out the switch arm but it did not fix the problem. Can someone tell me what else I should look for to fix this problem? Thanks!

The light is a low wiper fluid indicator. Have you tried adding fluid?

The lack of proper wiper parking is most likely due to the parking switch in the wiper motor breaking. The switch is mechanical and a contact arm could have broken off.

The fix is replace the motor which has the switch or trying to repair the switch. This involves attempting to reattach the arm.

Toyomoho,

Yes, the washer fluid reservoir is full, and I have taken the battery terminals off to reset the warning light, but the light comes back on. I have not looked at the wiper motor parking switch. I will look into it. Thanks very much for your advice. Much appreciated!

The washer reservoir has a float sensor. The float could be stuck or bad. The sensor can be removed and checked. Need to get under the car to remove it.
