Default Fob will not open trunk

I have a 2002 Toyota Camry. The key fob works for all the doors except the trunk. It is sending a signal to the trunk, but it will not open. Also, sometimes the lock will not turn on the trunk either key either. It does though, always open when using the interior trunk latch. Thank you!

The trunk lock has a motor that the FOB and key activates. The lock mechanism the motor is attached to could be sticking, broken, etc.

The mechanism is held on by a couple of bolts. Remove and inspect it for free operation.

It is possible the lock could fail and not allow access to the trunk.

If having fold down seats. Set the seat lock to allow folding it down from inside the car. If the lock fails, you can then access the emergency trunk release inside the trunk.
