Default Shift lock override button. Please help

I have 95 camry. Everytime I start up my car I have to push the override button up by the shifter to get it to shift out of park. I took the center console out to check to see what could be wrong. Apparently the solenoid or something is bad and isn't moving the plater stopper. Which means I have to use the override button. So how can I fix this?

It could be the switch at the brake pedal. ever since audi 5000's started driving through store fronts, cars are made with a switch that ensures your pressing the brake when you put it intogear.
you should be able to jump solenoid at the gear selector with a 12volt wire to see if it will move when power is applied otherwise check the brake switch.

Thanks man.
I'll check into that later this week when I have time and see what's going on.

Determine if the rear brakes lights work.

Hmm. I wasn't sure if both brakes and shift interlock were on the same circuit. I guess that means they are
